RiverKings to turn back the clock this weekend

October 26, 2006 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Mississippi RiverKings News Release

SOUTHAVEN --- It is going to be a weekend of bobbleheads, jersey flashbacks, old rivalries and new faces at the DeSoto Civic Center this weekend. This Friday and Saturday nights, the RiverKings are hosting the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs for a pair of 7:05 games in the second weekend of the CHL season.

The new faces will belong to the recently signed defenseman Will Bodine (boe DEEN) and winger Tyler McGregor. Both were on the team's extended training camp roster and then signed to standard contracts. Bodine played at Hobart College the past four seasons and was with the August Lynx of the ECHL for 10 games at the end of last season. He was also with them in training camp.

McGregor was the 6th leading scorer nationally in Division I NCAA hockey last season with 54 points on 26 goals and 28 assists. He led his Holy Cross Crusaders to the Regional Finals of the NCAA tournament and became that school's first Division I Hockey All-American.

Both McGregor and Bodine will make their RiverKings debuts tomorrow night.

Tomorrow night is also the first of the five bobblehead giveaways with the first 1,500 fans receiving a Cellular South Derek Landmesser mini bobblehead. Tomorrow's game will also be the night for the already publicized Locks of Love event in conjunction with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society being the featured non profit.

Saturday night will seem like a time warp for some RiverKings fans. As a part of the team's 15th anniversary celebration, the RiverKings will be wearing retro jerseys from the mid '90s era of RiverKings hockey. Plus, the first 1,000 fans 12 and under will get a replica of the retro jersey courtesy of Bounz.

Both games will be followed by a post game skate.

The RiverKings and their Northeast Division rival Mudbugs come into the game with identical 0-1-1 records after the first weekend of play in the Central Hockey League. The Mudbugs lost in regulation in Oklahoma City on Friday and fell in a shootout in Austin on Saturday. The RiverKings opened with a 5-4 shootout loss to Youngstown at the DCC on Friday and then lost 4-2 to the Steelhounds the next night.

Tomorrow's game is first of 11 between these two teams this season. Last season, they faced-off a total of 12 times, with Bossier winning nine of the games, one in a shootout.
