
Bucks Fall 5-2 in Bossier

BOSSIER CITY, Louisiana- The defending CHL President's Cup Champion Laredo Bucks fell 5-2 to the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs on Thursday night at the CenturyTel Center. The Mudbugs rallied from a 2-0 deficit with four power play goals for the win. With less than two minutes to play the teams engaged in a full scale line brawl as the rivalry boiled over. Laredo is now 1-1-0. The Bucks open at home this Saturday against the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees at the Laredo Entertainment Center. Face off set for 7:30 p.m. The Bucks will raise the 2005-06 CHL President's Cup Championship banner and the first 5,000 fans receive a championship mini banner courtesy of A-1 Collision Super Center. Bossier had some early power play chances in the first period, but the Bucks continued their stellar play on the penalty kill. When even strength play resumed Laredo took the lead. Forward Patrick Murphy batted home a rebound at 11:17 to make it 1-0 Bucks. Forward Serge Dube then made it 2-0 when he buried a rebound at 14:50. Bossier was 0-4 on the power play in the period, while the Bucks didn't have a chance on the man advantage.
The Bucks had a chance to blow open the game with a 48 second two-man advantage early in the second period, but were unable to score. The tables then turned as the Mudbugs dominated the play capitalizing on their power play chances in the frame. Forward Chris Brassard went top shelf with a one-timer on a two-man advantage to get Bossier on the scoreboard at 10:42. Then forward Dan Wildfong shoveled home a rebound at 11:36 to tie the game. The Mudbugs power play continued to be red hot as defenseman Ryan Fairbarn blasted home a shot from the high point to give the Mudbugs a 3-2 lead at 12:59.
The Mudbugs then blew the game open in the third period. Forward Karlis Zirnis deflected in a shot for a power play goal at 7:27 to make it 4-2. Forward Daniel Pegoraro then made a great toe drag move, stepped to the slot and snapped home a wrist shot top shelf to finish the scoring at 11:08. With less than two minutes left the game exploded as everybody on the ice started throwing punches including the goalies. In total 12 players were ejected. FINAL SCORE Bossier-Shreveport 5, Laredo 2.
Nathan Marsters allowed five goals on 34 shots in 58:09 of work and took the loss to fall to 1-1-0. Ken Carroll stopped 22 of 24 shots in 58:09 and got the win to improve to 1-0-0. The Bucks were 0-6 on the power play while Bossier was 4-12. The Mudbugs out shot the Bucks 34-24.
