LAFAYETTE, La. - The Mississippi RiverKings (27-17-10) threw 47 shots on goal, but they mustered just a point as they fell in overtime, 3-2, to the Louisiana IceGators (25-25-4) on Thursday night in Louisiana.
After a scoreless first period, the RiverKings got on the board first in the second. Max Cook collected a blocked loose puck in the slot and fired a shot that deflected off of Charles Mosey and past IceGator netminder Brad Barone to take a 1-0 lead just under five minutes into the first.
Louisiana tallied a pair early in the third. John Daniels' initial shot was blocked, but Jake Hauswirth poked the rebound past a diving Peter Di Salvo to tie the game at one 2:22 into the third. Then, 60 seconds later, Zac Frischmon set up Luke Sandler who backhanded a shot between the legs of Di Salvo to put Louisiana up 2-1.
The RiverKings tied it up with under six minutes left in the third. Reid Campbell set up Cullen Bradshaw whose one-time shot beat Barone to tie the game at two and force overtime.
In overtime, Matt Robertson took a pass from Mike Kavanagh and slipped a deflection past Di Salvo to give Louisiana a 3-2 victory.
Peter Di Salvo (13-6-5) took the loss after stopping 21 of 24 shots against. Brad Barone (10-10-1) stopped 45 of 47 shots against in the win.
The RiverKings were held scoreless on eight power play chances while Louisiana went 0-2.
