LAFAYETTE, La. - A win is a win no matter how ugly it might be.

That's what the Louisiana IceGators are telling themselves right now.

Despite multiple breakdowns offensively and defensively early in the game, goalie Brad Barone stepped up, stopping 45 shots and helping propel the IceGators to a 3-2 overtime victory over the Mississippi RiverKings.  Matt Robertson scored the game winner 1:45 into the extra frame off assists from Jake Hauswirth and Mike Kavanagh.

The IceGators return to action Friday night when they host the Knoxville IceBears in the penultimate game of the regular season. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.

"That was a huge performance by Brad Barone," IceGators head coach Drew Omicioli said. "His play won us a game that was dominated by the RiverKings. I felt our defensive zone got us in trouble time after time, but Barone was there to bail us out.

"Overall, we played a sloppy game, but we found a way to grab two points we needed. They aren't always going to be pretty, but at the end of the day, we found a way to win."

The RiverKings jumped out to a 1-0 lead 4:16 into the second period when Charles Mosey scored off assists from Max Cook and Reid Campbell.

The IceGators bounced back in the third period, taking a 2-1 in the first three-and-a-half minutes of the frame thanks to goals from Hauswirth and Luke Sandler.

Cullen Bradshaw tied the game with 5:52 left in regulation of feeds from Reid Campbell and Linden Bahm.

Robertson's overtime goal--his second since rejoining the IceGators last week--gives him a two-game goal streak.

"We came out buzzing to start the third period, and we scored those two big goals before more miscommunication in our defensive zone allowed that game-tying score," Omicioli said. "Those two big goals from Hauswirth and Sandler gave us an opportunity to win the game, and Robertson came up with a great goal at the end to win it for us."
