Mississippi RiverKings News Release

SOUTHAVEN, Miss. -- In front of 6,326 screaming middle schoolers, the Mississippi RiverKings (8-2-1) knocked off the Mississippi Surge (6-5-0) 2-1 for their first victory against their in-state rivals this season.

The first period saw all the scoring. The Surge wasted no time getting on the board as Reid Edmondson batted home a Mark Thorburn rebound past Matt Krahn to put the visitors ahead 1:37 into the action.

But the RiverKings answered. Mike Grace tallied his first professional goal on a shot from the high slot that beat Dan Clarke to tie the game at one 5:03 into the period. Two-and-a-half minutes later, Andrew Randazzo's shot slipped through the legs of Clarke on the power play to put the RiverKings ahead headed into the first intermission.

After a scoreless second period, the Surge came out with chances in the latter portion of the third. With Dan Clarke pulled for an extra attacker, the Surge had multiple face offs inside the RiverKings zone, but could not capitalize as the RiverKings took points in their seventh straight game.

Matt Krahn (4-0-1) stopped 32 of 33 shots against in the victory. Dan Clarke (0-3-0) turned away 32 of 34 shots in the loss.

In the first intermission, the RiverKings, in conjunction with Maddox Foundation, awarded a check to the DeSoto County Schools' Superintendent's Youth Leadership Council for $10,000 through their ticket fundraiser with the Face Off Field Trip.

The RiverKings return to the ice tomorrow night to take on the Mississippi Surge in Biloxi. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. with all the action airing live on Sports 56, 87.7FM and the America One Sports Network.
