Mississippi RiverKings News Release

SOUTHAVEN, Miss – The two-time defending CHL champion Memphis RiverKings announced Thursday that they have signed defenseman Jasmin Gelinas to the active roster.

Gelinas, who played 34 games this season for the Columbus Stars of the UHL, has accrued 17 points (5G, 12A) and 24 penalty minutes so far this season.

Gelinas was excited about joining the RiverKings, and felt that his style of play could help the team in its quest for a third championship.

"I'm more of an offensive defenseman," said Gelinas, "I'm a puck movement kind of player."

Gelinas played last season in Europe for Briancon in the French League. Through 21 games he amassed 15 points (3G, 12A) and 15 penalty minutes.

Gelinas's time with the Stars came to a close when the Stars franchise folded last week due to financial issues. Gelinas is one of several former Stars players to find a home in other leagues, including the CHL.

"It was a crazy situation there," said Gelinas. "It was just a shame that the owner ran out of money, because we had a first-place team."

Gelinas is expected to be in the lineup this evening, as the RiverKings play the first of a trio of games this weekend.

The RiverKings will be in action tonight against the Wichita Thunder at the DeSoto Civic Center. The two teams met last week in a contest that was won by the RiverKings 6-2, but that featured a great deal of bad blood and several penalties for fighting and roughing. Game time is set for 7:05 pm CST.

All 64 RiverKings games can be heard on Easy 680 AM, as well as worldwide via SportsJuice.com. Select RiverKings games will also be available through CHL TV, a league-wide video streaming enterprise.
