Minard Returns, RiverKings Prepare for Trio of Games

SOUTHAVEN, Miss – The two-time defending CHL champion Memphis RiverKings announced Thursday morning that goaltender Mike Minard has been returned to the team from the St. John's Maple Leafs of the American Hockey League.

Minard, a 6'3", 207-pound goaltender, returns to the RiverKings after spending a week with the Maple Leafs. In two games played with St. John's, Minard posted a 1-0-1 record, with a 3.36 goals against average and a .889 save percentage.

Minard's return comes at an opportune time for the RiverKings, looking to bolster their lineup as they enter another stretch of three games in three days.

The RiverKings, despite losing several important personnel to injuries and call-ups over the last few weeks, have kept pace with hard-charging Bossier-Shreveport in the Northeast Division. Entering tonight's contest with the Wichita Thunder, the RiverKings are tied with the Mudbugs for the lead in the division, with each team having 49 points a side. Since the last day of 2003, the RiverKings are 4-1-1, including divisional victories versus Indianapolis and at Fort Worth. The team's hard play despite missing certain personnel has been key to the squad's successes during this time.

Memphis will look to sustain that same level of intensity this evening, as the RiverKings will enter tonight's contest without the services of forward/defenseman Stephen Margeson and forward Brad Mueller, both of whom are on the short-term injured reserve list for various injuries. Also sidelined is goaltender Jean-Francois Racine, serving a league suspension.

The RiverKings will be in action tonight against the Wichita Thunder at the DeSoto Civic Center. The two teams met last week in a contest that was won by the RiverKings 6-2, but that featured a great deal of bad blood and several penalties for fighting and roughing. Game time is set for 7:05 pm CST.
