Mississippi RiverKings News Release
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The Mississippi RiverKings (12-6-2) poured on the offense on Friday night as they gave the Knoxville Ice Bears (8-7-2) a 7-1 thumping in Knoxville.
The RiverKings got on the board early when Matt Harrington pushed the puck across the goal line to put the visitors up 1-0 just 5:20 into the first. Three minutes later, Charles Lachance redirected a Devin Mantha shot past Bryan Hince to put the RiverKings ahead by two. With Cody Rosen between the pipes for Knoxville, the RiverKings continued to pour it on. Todd Hosmer's shot found it's way to the back of the net before Matt Whitehead capitalized on a Hosmer pass to put the RiverKings up 4-0 headed into the second period and ended the night for Rosen.
The second period started with the same result from the first. With Eric Satim in the penalty box for cross checking, Andrew Randazzo blasted a shot over the shoulder of Hince to give the RiverKings a five-goal lead. Nine minutes later, Mike Hayward's shot on a three-on-two beat Hince between the legs to put the RiverKings up 6-0. After getting hooked on a breakaway, Tyler Melancon capitalized on a penalty shot 11:17 into the second period. Knoxville tallied their lone goal with three minutes remaining in the third when Jon Higgins hammered a rebound past Dan McWhinney.
The third period saw Rosen take his place between the pipes for a penalty-filled third period. The teams combined for 56 penalty minutes and totaled four game misconducts as the RiverKings held on for a 7-1 victory.
Dan McWhinney (6-5-0) stopped 27 of 28 shots against in the victory. Bryan Hince (8-5-2) took the loss after stopping 11 of 16 in 33:58 of action. Cody Rosen stopped 14 of 16 shots against in 26:02 of play.
