RiverKings roster additions sees Memphis sign best

SOUTHAVEN, MS – The 2004-05 roster for the Memphis RiverKings continues to grow, as the team announced on Monday that they have signed young power forward Matt Best.

Best, a native of Huntsville, Ontario, joins that RiverKings after spending time with the Lindsay Muskies, a junior hockey team in Lindsay, Ontario. The 6'0, 205-pound forward will be making his professional debut at RiverKings camp.

"I like to think of myself as a power forward," said Best, "as a fast, hard-hitting player that makes things happen."

Best will join the RiverKings in training camp, and he says he's anticipating that the high level of competition will be an excellent learning experience.

"I'm looking forward to playing a good style of hockey and gaining some professional experience," he said.

Best also says that the chance to play for a team in the Toronto Maple Leafs organization is a dream cone true.

"It feels amazing," said Best. "They've been my favorite team since I was little."

Best joins a roster includes a mix of key RiverKings from the past two seasons, as well as several new faces. Team captain Don Parsons, defenseman and assistant captain Derek Landmesser, veteran forwards Alexandre Mathieu and Brad Mueller, physical forward Riley Cote, and young defenseman Jeremy Goetzinger have already agreed to terms with Memphis for the 2004-05 campaign, as have former New Mexico Scorpions defenseman Jeff Cameron, Canadian goaltender David Lemanowicz, and young forwards Allan Carr and Phil Aucoin.

The RiverKings will take to the ice once again in late October for the 2004-05 season, as the team looks to earn a playoff berth for the fourth time in the last five years.
