RiverKings Pepper Jaeger, Fall 3-2 in Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ga. - The Mississippi RiverKings (21-11-6) threw 39 shots on goal, but Brandon Jaeger helped the Columbus Cottonmouths (14-20-6) pick up their first win of the season over the RiverKings, 3-2, on Sunday afternoon.

The RiverKings took the first lead of the game late in the first period. Cullen Bradshaw set up Bret Peppler on the power play to put the RiverKings 1-0 with just under five minutes left in the opening frame.

Then, early in the second, Columbus tied the game at one. Chris Rial took a pass at the blueline and ripped a shot through traffic that beat RiverKings' goaltender Garrett Sheehan for the Snakes' first goal of the afternoon just 1:02 into the middle period.

The teams then traded goals late in the second. Ryan Marcuz deflected a shot from Bradshaw to give the RiverKings a 2-1 lead. But less than 60 seconds later, Patrick McCadden ripped a shot past Sheehan to tie the game at two headed into the third.

In the third, the Snakes took their first lead of the game. Chad Bennett notched his first goal as a Snake off a pass from Ben O'Quinn to give Columbus a 3-2 lead and they held on to had the RiverKings their second consecutive loss.

Garrett Sheehan (7-7-4) took the loss after stopping 16 of 19. Brandon Jaeger (10-9-1) picked up the win after stopping 37 of 39 shots against.

The RiverKings converted on one of four power play opportunities, while Columbus was held scoreless on two chances with the man-advantage.
