RIVERKINGS HERE AND THERE

The 5-4 shootout loss in the season opener on Friday gives the RiverKings a 6-8-1 all-time record in their 15 season openers. They are also now 3-0-1 in season openers at the DCC. In home openers, the RiverKings are 12-1-2 all-time and 6-0-1 since moving to the DCC. It was also just the second RiverKings season opener to go to overtime or shootout. The other time was the 04-05 opener when the RiverKings defeated Fort Worth 5-4 in a shootout.

Winger Phil Aucoin had his RiverKings point and assist streaks snapped on Saturday night. After picking up an assist in the season opener on Friday, Aucoin extended streaks that he started at the end of the 04-05 season to 10 games for points and 9 games for assists. He went without a point in Saturday's game. Aucoin is back with the RiverKings after playing in the ECHL with Charlotte and Florida last season.

After the past weekend, the RiverKings and Steelhounds will face 10 more times. This weekend's games with Bossier-Shreveport are the first of 11 meetings with the Mudbugs. In total, over a third of the RiverKings' games this season will be competed against either the Mudbugs or the Steelhounds.

THE STAT

"5" The number of returning players from last season's RiverKings squad. The returners are Travis Banga, Ryan Campbell, Derek Landmesser, Darrell Stoddard and Sheldon Wenzel. Of those 5, only Banga, Landmesser and Stoddard were with the team the whole season in 05-06.

RIVERKINGS MAKE MOVES

Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kevin McClelland announced on Wednesday that the team has signed defenseman Will Bodine (boe DEEN) to a standard contract, waived defenseman Andrew Dwyer and traded defenseman Chad McIver to the Austin Ice Bats for future considerations.

RIVERKINGS PROGRAMS ARE TRUE COLLECTORS ITEMS THIS SEASON

The RiverKings Game Day Program is a must purchase when you come to a game. There will be 13 different editions printed throughout the season with several updated features from edition to edition, including a different cover each edition, an updated schedule with game results and updated player photos for any future roster changes (great for player autographs). The program has also gotten into the spirit of the team's 15th anniversary. Each program edition will have a different RiverKings history story that goes back and profiles a former player or coach from past RiverKings seasons. To go even farther back, each program edition will also have a feature about when hockey was here in the 60's when the Memphis Wings and South Stars called the Mid-South Coliseum home. A program sells for $2 and includes a game-day insert with rosters and notes about that night's game included. The game-day insert sells for $1 by itself. Programs are sold at the main west entrance to the DCC arena by the RiverKings Ice Girls before the game and also at the two merchandise stands before and during the game.
