Adam Smyth tallied a pair of goals, including the eventual game-winner about 13 minutes into the second period, as the RiverKings defeated the Northern Conference-leading Eagles for the second straight night in Colorado, 5-3. The win marked the first time in three years the Eagles had lost back-to-back games at home. It was also RiverKings Coach Kevin Kaminski's second straight coaching victory, after having never won in Loveland as a coach before Friday's 5-2 Mississippi victory. Kevin Beech stopped 36 of 39 shots on goal in earning his league-leading 26th victory of the year in goal. Joe Markusen, Garrett Larson, and Stephen Margeson also scored goals for the RiverKings. Margeson's empty net goal in the final minute of the game was his 100th career professional point. Mississippi was out shot 39-25 for the game and scored once in three power play chances, while holding the top-rated power play team in the CHL scoreless in three man advantage opportunities.

Back in the Thirties Again

Friday's victory over Colorado marked the RiverKings' 30th victory of the season; the third straight year that the franchise has reached the thirty win plateau in the regular season. The 2007-08 team finished 39-21-4 and the 2006-07 Memphis RiverKings were 39-19-6. With the exception of one season, Mississippi/Memphis teams have won thirty or more games in eight out of the last nine seasons, with the 22-37-5 RiverKings of 2005-06 being the only bump along that particular trail. The streak includes the two President's Cup championship teams of 2001-02 and 2002-03. The 2001-02 RiverKings won 46 games in their first CHL championship year.

Kevin Kaminski has now coached teams to thirty or more victories in his last three seasons and four out of his last five campaigns. The last two seasons he coached the now-departed Youngstown SteelHounds to 34 and 39 wins, respectively, in the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons. His 2004-05 Missouri River Otters of the United Hockey League won 42 games in an 80-game season.
