Rocky Mountain Rage News Release

Broomfield, Colo. - Mississippi RiverKings goaltender Tyler Sims made 36 saves to lead his club to a 5-1 victory over the Rocky Mountain Rage at Broomfield Event Center. Matt Summers scored twice and Jeff Nelson contributed three assists to help hand Rocky Mountain the defeat in the team's only home game during the month of February.

The Rage generated plenty of chances through the first two periods against Sims but looked up to find themselves trailing 4-1 heading to the third despite having the edge in shots 29-17.

The teams traded goals in the opening period - Summers lighting the lamp at 8:19 for Mississippi and Simon Watson scoring unassisted for the Rage at 10:53.

Rocky Mountain kept peppering Sims during the first half of the second, but the game was still tied at one until Stephen Margeson jammed home his own rebound at 11:24. Skating on the power play later in the period, the RiverKings took a 3-1 lead when Summers also scored on a rebound at 17:59. The visitors then essentially finished off the Rage with another goal at 19:07. David Simoes' slapshot from the blue line - the d-man's first of the year - completed the three-goal period to give Mississippi the 4-1 edge after two.

The ‘Kings' Louis Dumont then tacked on a goal at 3:54 of the third period for the 5-1 final.

In the end, the lone bright sport for Rocky Mountain was Watson's goal, which extended his point streak to 10 games (9g-5a). Not only did his unassisted effort tie the team's season-high point streak also achieved by Brent Cullaton from Dec. 31 - Jan. 17, the third-year pro also owns the longest current streak in the league.

The loss drops the Rage to 26-21-4 this season, but the club is still well entrenched in the Northern Conference's fifth and final playoff spot with 56 points, 18 ahead of the sixth-place Rapid City Rush.

After today's lone February home game, Rocky Mountain now packs its bags to conclude a stretch of 12 of 13 on the road with five more road tilts. Up next for the team is a showdown with the Colorado Eagles on Feb. 20 and 21 at the Budweiser Events Center.

All of the live play-by-play action against the Eagles can be seen and heard beginning at 7 p.m. both nights on the CHL Network, which can be accessed off the Rage's home page at www.rockymountainrage.com.

Rocky Mountain does not return to Broomfield Event Center until Thursday, March 5, when the club hosts the Eagles at 7:05 p.m. Individual tickets for the game on the 5th as well as all remaining Rage games this season at the BEC are available for as low as $5 for kids 12 and under (with the purchase of at least one adult ticket) and cost just $10 for students with a valid ID. Tickets may be purchased at the BEC Box Office, www.Ticketmaster.com, (303) 830-TIXS, and all Ticketmaster retail outlets.
