Mississippi RiverKings News Release
SOUTHAVEN, MS --- Here's an update of what your RiverKings have been doing in the community in the past couple of weeks.
Thursday, September 16th, RiverKings Head Coach Kevin "Killer" Kaminski served as a judge for "University's Got Talent," at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis. The event was a talent contest for hospital employees.
This past weekend, RiverKings mascot Sheldon the Turtle appeared at the Germantown Festival, on Poplar Pike in Germantown. The weekend festival is one of the longest-running fall events of its type in the area, in its 38th year. RiverKings Media Coordinator and broadcaster Bob Bakken also appeared Sunday, September 12th on the Germantown High School Television production of its festival coverage to talk about the team and the upcoming season.
Saturday, September 11th, mascot Sheldon the Turtle appeared at the Down Syndrome Association of Memphis and the Mid-South North Mississippi Family Picnic . It was held at Goodman Oaks Church of Christ in Southaven. The organization supporting families with Down Syndrome children is gearing up for its annual funraiser walk on October 17th.
Sheldon was also out at the finish line of the FedEx "Rock-N-Roll" Bike MS ride to benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society Mid South chapter on Sunday, September 12th, which began at the RiverKings' DeSoto Civic Center home in Southaven. Cyclists traveled Saturday, September 11th to Tunica, Mississippi, stayed overnight at the Harrah's Tunica Resort, and returned to Southaven the next day.
The RiverKings have also supported several fundraiser golf tournaments in recent weeks, including the tournament for the Memphis Oral School for the Deaf, which was played in Olive Branch on Monday, September 13th at Wedgewood Country Club.
Don't forget, the RiverKings Golf Scramble, presented by EMHC, for the Jr. StreetKings youth roller hockey program will be played at the Ridgeway Country Club in Memphis on Thursday, September 30th. A shot-gun start begins play at 1:00 PM. Registration begins at 11:00 AM.

The Mississippi RiverKings are now less than a month away from starting off another run for the Central Hockey League championship, with the home opener against Bossier-Shreveport set for Saturday, October 16th in Southaven's DeSoto Civic Center, starting at 7:05 PM.
