SOUTHAVEN, MS --- Fans of the Mississippi RiverKings Central Hockey League (CHL) hockey team showed their caring support for people affected by the recent earthquake in Haiti that has rocked the nation's capital, Port-au-Prince.

Last weekend, when the RiverKings played games against the Missouri Mavericks on Friday, January 22nd and Saturday, January 23rd, fans were greeted by representatives of the organization Compassion International and given the chance to give to Compassion International's Haiti Earthquake Relief.

Compassion International has had a presence in Haiti for over four decades, currently serving 65,000 children through child sponsorship and development programs. Their vast in-country network enabled them to immediately mobilize to lend aid and support when the earthquake occurred earlier this month.

RiverKings fans contributed a total of $1685.00 to the relief effort. All of the funds go directly to Haiti, none of it is taken out for administrative and related expenses.

"We want to thank all those who gave to this cause," said Compassion International Gulf Coast Regional Manager Karen Spencer of Memphis. "We hope you will not forget the people of Haiti in their time of need. Compassion has been 'on the ground' working and building relationships with the people of Haiti for forty years, and we will continue to be there long term."

The RiverKings organization is also grateful for the generosity shown by its fan base to step in at a time of need and show the concern and caring of its fans.

The next game for the RiverKings is at home tonight against the Rapid City Rush. Game time is 7:05 PM at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven.
