Southaven, Miss. - The Mississippi RiverKings took down the Louisiana IceGators 6-0 at the Desoto Civic Center on Friday night.
The game got started with a bang as Darrell Stoddard and Jason Hill dropped the gloves on the opening face off, marking the first of three fights in the night.
Leland Fidler scored 7:12 into the first period with a wrist shot from the slot, beating B.J. O'Brien over the shoulder to give the RiverKings a 1-0 lead.
The second period was all RiverKings from the beginning. At the 3:34 mark, Mark Magnowski swatted a Deven Stillar rebound in past O'Brien to give the RiverKings a 2-0. Ken Selby scored on a wrap-around on a pass from Stillar to put the 'Kings up three.
Kevin Hamel picked up his first professional goal as his slap shot went five-hole on the Louisiana netminder, to put the RiverKings up four. Darrell Stoddard would end O'Brien's night as his shot beat the goalkeeper glove side to give the home team a 5-0 lead.
Tibor Varga picked up his third goal of the year, as he and Selby broke in on a two-on-none breakaway to beat Dan Earles, to end the scoring and give the RiverKings the 6-0 lead.
David Wilson turned aside all 18 shots against him as he improved to 6-4-1 on the season. B.J. O'Brien fell to 6-4-1 as he stopped 13 of 18 shots on goal. Dan Earles turned aside eight of nine shots on him in relief.
