RiverKings Come Back to Edge Brahmas in Shootout
November 5, 2003 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
The Fort Worth Brahmas suffered another close loss on Tuesday night, as the Memphis RiverKings took a come from behind 3-2 shootout win from the Brahmas in front of 2,753 fans at the Fort Worth Convention Center.
Brahmas defenseman Peter Trumbley scored on a long slapshot from the right point 6:54 into the third period that looked as if it was going to be the game winning goal. It was the second tally of the night for Trumbley, who scored the Brahmas first goal of the game in the first period when he converted a gorgeous back door pass from center Shawn Roed. Memphis, however, refused to let Trumbley's goal seal their fate.
At the 12:29 mark of the third period, RiverKings captain Don Parsons used a burst of speed in the neutral zone to get past Brahmas defenseman Carl Greenhous. Parson's initial shot went wide of the Brahmas net and caromed off of the end boards right to RiverKings center Jonathan Gagnon. From deep in the left wing corner, Gagnon's bad angle shot bounced off of Brahmas goaltender Erasmo Saltarelli and into the Fort Worth net to tie the score at 2. The two teams played solid defense the rest of the way, and the game went into overtime.
After a scoreless overtime, the contest went to a shootout, the Brahmas third in their first seven games of the season. In the shootout, the RiverKings Jay Neal and Don Parsons scored on Saltarelli, while Memphis netminder Shawn Conschafter stopped all four Brahmas attempts that he faced. Neal was credited with the game winning goal for Memphis.
The shootout loss drops the Brahmas record to 1-3-3 on the young season. Memphis improves to 7-1-0. Fort Worth will continue their busy week with road games at Bossier-Shreveport and Wichita on Thursday and Friday respectively, before returning home to the Fort Worth Convention Center this Saturday, Nov. 8, to host the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs.
