Laredo Bucks News Release
LAREDO, Texas â The Laredo Bucks completed their second straight three-in-three weekend by taking two of three games. The Bucks are 6-1-0 with 12 points and remain in first place in the Southeast division. The Bucks shutout the Austin Ice Bats 3-0 on Friday in a fight marred game on Halloween night. Saturday, Laredo suffered their first loss of the season 4-1 in Corpus Christi. Sunday night the Bucks rebounded with a 5-2 win over the San Angelo Saints. · The Bucks host the Corpus Christi Rayz this Friday night at the LEC at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, Laredo travels to Rio Grande Valley for their first regular season game with the Killer Bees at the Dodge Arena.
BUCKS VS. UPCOMING OPPONENTS
CORPUS CHRISTI RAYZ
· The Bucks are 2-1-0 against Corpus Christi with all three games haven taken place on the road at Memorial Coliseum. The Rayz beat the Bucks in the last meeting 4-1 this past Saturday night ending a 12-game losing streak against Laredo. Last year the Bucks went 10-2-0 vs. the Rayz.
RIO GRANDE VALLEY KILLER BEES
· The Bucks beat the Killer Bees 2-1 on October 11th in a pre-season game at the LEC. This is the first ever regular season game against Rio Grande Valley.
ABOUT TIME
· The Bucks first three road games were all played on Saturday nights at Memorial Coliseum in Corpus Christi. Laredo will mix things up by going on the road to Rio Grande Valley this Saturday night.
TURNING THE RED LIGHT ON
· The Bucks lead the CHL with 32 goals in seven games, a CHL best average of 4.6 per contest. Last year the Bucks led the CHL with 253 goals in the regular season, an average of four goals per game.
RED HOT SCORING TOUCH
· Bucks forward Patrik Nilson scored a goal in the first six games that Laredo played this year before his streak ended on 11/02 against San Angelo. Nilson is currently tied for the CHL lead with seven goals. Despite his goal scoring streak coming to an end, Nilson has managed to record a point in all seven games.
HELPING HANDS · Bucks forward Jeff Bes currently leads the CHL with 11 assists and has tallied a helper in five straight games. On 10/25 at Corpus Christi he had five assists and five total points which is so far a 2003-04 CHL single game best.
LEC SWEET LEC
· The Bucks play five of their first eight games at the LEC where they are currently 4-0-0. Laredo has outscored opponents 19-6 on home ice. Last year the Bucks posted the best home record in the league going 26-4-2 record at the Laredo Entertainment Center.
TOP OF THE HEAP
· The Bucks currently are tied for the second most wins in the CHL with six. Laredo leads the CHL in penalty kill percentage at 94.1%, stopping 48 of 51 chances. The Bucks are fourth in the CHL in power play percentage at 18.4%, going seven for 38.
BAD BUCKS
· In 2003-04 the Bucks lead the CHL with an average of 43.7 penalty minutes per game. The Bucks are fourth in majors in the CHL with 16. The Bucks led the CHL last year with 111 major penalties and were fifth at 25.9 penalty minutes per game.
BUCKS SET NEW FRANCHISE RECORD
· With a 3-0 win this past Friday night the Bucks set a new franchise record for consecutive regular season wins on home ice. Laredo currently has 11 straight wins at the LEC in a streak that includes seven games that date back to the 2002-03 regular season. The Bucks last loss at home in the regular season was on February 11, 2003, by the score of 3-2 versus Austin.
GETTING A QUICK START
· The Bucks have scored the first goal in five of their seven regular season games in 2003-04. Laredo is 5-0-0 when they score first. Last year the Bucks were 28-4-2 when scoring first.
NICE FLIP FLOP
· Last year the Bucks started 0-4-0, this year they stared 5-0-0 before suffering their first defeat.
END OF A STREAK
· The Bucks were defeated 4-1 by the Corpus Christi Rayz this past Saturday. The loss ended Laredo's 12-game win streak against the Rayz.
END OF ANOTHER STREAK
· Laredo had scored a power play goal in four straight games until going 0-4 against San Angelo. Laredo has tallied a power play marker in five of seven games in 2003-04.
SEASON HIGHS
· Laredo fired a season high 23 shots in the first period against San Angelo on Sunday, 11/02. The Bucks totaled a season high 39 shots in the game against the Saints.
SUSPENSIONS
· Due to the line brawl in the third period on 10/31 against Austin two Laredo Bucks players were suspended by the CHL. Defenseman Gabriel Proulx was suspended for one game and forward James Hiebert was suspended for two games. Both players served their suspensions this past weekend.
BUCKS RAISE $10,000 FOR TAMIU
The Laredo Bucks conducted a post-game auction this past Friday night that raised $10,000 to support athletics at Texas A&M International University. The Bucks wore Halloween themed jerseys during their 3-0 win over the Austin Ice Bats and then auctioned them off after the game. Defensemen Dion Hyman and Serge Dube's jerseys were the top money raisers as both went for over $1,000. A special autographed goalie mask was also auctioned, raising the most money for an individual item by going for $1,500 dollars.
