BILOXI, Miss. -- The Mississippi RiverKings fell to new in-state rivals, the Mississippi Surge, by a score of 3-0 in their first ever Southern Professional Hockey League meeting at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum on Friday, November 4 in front of 1,524 fans.

Despite being outshot in every period by the RiverKings, Surge goaltender Nick Eno led the way for his team turning away all 31 shots on goal made by the RiverKings.

The scoring opened at 5:53 of the first period, with Adam Krug converting a two-on-one odd-man-rush opportunity for his second goal of the season with the assists coming from Mark Versteeg-Lytwyn and Shawn Skelly. Even with the early tally by the Surge, the RiverKings held a 14-5 margin in shots after the first 20 minutes of action with the single goal by the Surge putting the home team up 1-0.

The Surge added to their lead just forty-five seconds into the second period making the score 2-0 for the home team who capitalized on a power play that carried over from late in the first period. Versteeg-Lytwyn scored his third goal of the season on the Surge's power play, with the assists going to Skelly and defenseman Scott Jenks. The RiverKings outshot the Surge 7-4 to end the second period.

In period three, the RiverKings had numerous chances including a 5 minute major power play but were unable to convert. Surge foward Rob Campbell finished the scoring with an unassisted empty net goal, his first of the season at 19:20 as the RiverKings tried to push for a goal late by pulling the goalie for the extra attacker.

The RiverKings outshot the Surge 31-17 in the 3-0 loss. The RiverKings record now sits at 1-3, while the Surge improved their record to 3-2 on the early season.

The RiverKings went 0 for 9 on the power play and the Surge converted on 1 of their 5 power play opportunities.

Scott Darling made his return in goal for the RiverKings after being loaned to the Florida Everblades of the ECHL on October 27, turning aside 14 of 16 Surge shots on goal with his record falling to 1-1 on the season. Surge goaltender Nick Eno improved to 2-2 on the season with the 31 save shutout, his second in a row after a shutout last friday over the Huntsville Havoc.
