Mississippi Surge News Release


Gator Wrasslin':The Mississippi Surge, winners of three straight games, hosts the Louisiana IceGators tonight. Many fans who are interested in the college football game between LSU and Alabama need not worry about checking in on that action. That game will be on television in the club areas.

Records: The Surge is 3-2-0 for six points in third place.

Louisiana is 2-3-0 for four points in sixth place.

Season Series:This is the first of 11 meetings this season between these two teams. The Surge will play Louisiana more than any other team this season.

Recent Action: The Surge is coming off its third straight victory, and second straight 3-0 win. The surge defeated the Mississippi RiverKings last night by that score, after beating Huntsville by the same score. Louisiana dropped a 5-2 decision at Huntsville last Saturday.

A Real Winner: Adam Krug has scored the first goal in each of the last two Surge games, and thus had the game winning goal in each contest. Krug leads the SPHL in game wining goals with two.

Perfect 10: Rob Campbell rounded out the scoring last night for the Surge, scoring into an empty net with 40 seconds to play. Campbell became the 10thSurge player already this season to have a goal. Thirteen different Surge players have points this season.

Blankety Blank: Nick Eno turned aside 31 shots last night in posting his second straight shutout. He is now tied for the SPHL lead in goals against average at 2.00 and leads the league in save percentage at .936. He is the second goaltender in Surge history to record back-to-back shutouts. Ironically, the other goalie to turn that trick is Dan Earles, now with Louisiana. He had consecutive shutouts December 4thand 9thof 2010.

Streaking Steegie:With a goal and assist last night, Mark Versteeg-Lytwyn stretched his point streak to four games. He has three goals and three assists in that stretch and leads the club in scoring with six points.

Next Up: The Surge continues a seven game homestand, its longest of the season, next weekend with military appreciation weekend with games Friday and Saturday, both against Pensacola at 7:05 p.m. Louisiana returns home to host Augusta next Friday.
