HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The Mississippi RiverKings (20-15-2) took a two-goal lead in the second then scored two empty-net goals to ice away a 4-1 win over the Huntsville Havoc (5-23-5) Saturday night at Von Braun Center.

The RiverKings grabbed the lead in a feisty first period when Ryan Marcuz sent a shot towards the net that bounced off a body in front and past goalie Kevin Genoe for a 1-0 lead. Joey Holka was credited with the lone assist on the goal. The rest of the period featured several scrums and penalties, but no other goals.

The RiverKings took a 2-0 lead with 7:32 to play in the second. Bryon Paulazzo forced a turnover and passed the puck to Sean Jones, who skated from the right circle towards the slot. He snapped a wrist shot past Genoe for the two-goal lead. Huntsville pulled back within one late in the second when Matt Viola took a shot from the bottom of the right circle that barely trickled through Adam Courchaine's pads and over the goal line, making it 2-1 heading to the third.

Mississippi held the lead throughout the third period, helped by several key saves by Courchaine. He held the fort until the RiverKings added back-to-back empty-net goals, one by Paulazzo and the other by Devin Mantha, to give the RiverKings a 4-1 win, their fourth straight win overall.

The RiverKings are back home Saturday, Feb. 7 against the Pensacola Ice Flyers for Pink in the Rink presented by ServiceMaster by Stratos. The RiverKings raise money for Wings Cancer Foundation in support of breast cancer awareness by wearing special pink jerseys.
