The Louisiana IceGators' Chris Wilson scored 4:51 into overtime to beat the Columbus Cottonmouths, 5-4 (OT).
Louisiana's penalty kill excelled, as the IceGators gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.
Louisiana was paced by Wilson, who registered one goal and one assist.
By firing 44 shots on goal, the IceGators exceeded the 17.1 shots they average per game this year.
Others who scored for Louisiana included Phil Bushbacher, Jake Hauswirth, Bret Peppler, and Mitchell Stretch, who scored one goal each. More assists for Louisiana came via Clark Byczynski, Tanner Burton, Jeremy Boyer, Adam Stuart, and Kirk Byczynski, who contributed one each and Shawn McNeil and Jordan Ciccarello, who each chipped in two.
Columbus got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game. With 40 shots on target during the contest, the Cottonmouths exceeded the 29.9 shots they average per game this year.
Columbus was helped by Shawn Bates, who finished with one goal. Bates scored 13:07 into the second period to make the score 3-3. Mike Switzer picked up the assist. Columbus also got points from Kyle Johnson, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Columbus also had goals scored by Tyler MacPherson and Andy Willigar, who each put in one. In addition, Columbus received assists from Nick Curry and Max Cook, who contributed one each and Craig Simchuk and Patrick McCadden, who each chipped in two.
Marco De Filippo rejected 36 shots on goal for Louisiana. The IceGators totaled 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-2 on the power play. Louisiana ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Tyler Barr was ejected from the game. Shannon Szabados made 39 saves for the Cottonmouths on 44 shots. Columbus incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
