Mississippi RiverKings News Release
SOUTHAVEN, Miss.âThe Memphis RiverKings agreed to terms for three players this week, Jonathan Gagnon, Vaclav "Vinny" Zavoral and Brian Tucker. The players will be in training camp on Oct. 5. All camp practices open to public viewing. The RiverKings home opener is set for Saturday, Oct. 18. For more information call the RiverKings office at 662-342-1755 or visit the Web at www.riverkings.com.
"We're happy to have championship players back in the fold," RiverKings Head Coach Jim Wiley said. "I hope personally they're able to pick up right where they left off last season."
At 6 feet, 1 inch and 198 pounds, Gagnon brings weight and height to the line. He totaled 26 goals, 22 assists, 48 points and 55 penalty minutes in 44 games during the regular season with the âKings last year. He also racked up 11 goals, 9 assists, 20 points and 16 penalty minutes during the 14-game playoff run last season. Last year was his second with Memphis.
With his 6-foot, 2-inch stature and 185 pounds, Zavoral's towering shape is an intimidating presence on the defensive line. During 53 regular-season games last year, Zavoral captured two goals, two assists and four points and racked up 143 penalty minutes.
Although Brian Tucker measures just 5 feet, 9 inches, he has proved to be a defensive fighting force not to be taken lightly during his three years with the âKings. Tucker played 62 games with the RiverKings during the regular season last year, totaling 10 goals, 20 assists, and 30 points while racking up 206 penalty minutes. In the playoff season, Tucker played in all 14 games, capturing five goals, six assists, 11 points and 36 penalty minutes.
RiverKings Governor Kevin Ryan said he was glad to see the three players' names on the training camp roster.
"There's no substitution for players with championship experience," Ryan said. "They were a big part of the team and the community last year, and we're thrilled to have them back."
Before attending RiverKings training camp, Gagnon will attend training camp for the Salt Lake City Utah Grizzlies.
"I'm excited for Jonathan," Wiley said. "I hope he makes it. Despite my selfishness to have him and his championship ways back with us, I wish him all the best."
"We are pleased to have Jon Gagnon attend the Grizzlies camp this year," Ryan said. "It's a reward for his hard work last year. Should he not make the team, he'll be back here."
