Riverhounds Host Final Home Game this Friday at Chartiers Valley High School
August 7, 2012 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC News Release
Pittsburgh (August 7, 2012) The Pittsburgh Riverhounds host Charlotte Eagles this Friday, August 10, for their final home game of the 2012 season. This game marks a major milestone for the Riverhounds as it will be the last game they play at Chartiers Valley High School before the opening of Highmark Stadium, set to open fall 2012.
"This will be an emotional game for many different reasons," says Jason Kutney, CEO and player for the Riverhounds. "Chartiers Valley has been great to us and the entire community has certainly embraced Riverhounds soccer."
Since established, the Riverhounds have not had an official home field having played games at CONSOL Energy Stadium in Washington, Pa as well as a handful of local high schools around the area. For the past six years, the Riverhounds have played their games at Chartiers Valley High School Stadium in Bridgeville, Pa.
The 2013 season will be the inaugural year for the Riverhounds to play at Highmark Stadium, currently being constructed in Station Square. With the completion of the 3,500-seat multi-sport and entertainment stadium, the Riverhounds will be the 3rd team in the United Soccer League (USL) PRO Division to own and operate its own stadium, joining Charleston Battery (SC) and Rochester Rhinos.
"The explosive growth of professional soccer in this country, especially within the MLS, has a great deal to do with the development of downtown soccer stadiums," says Kutney. "The goal for Pittsburgh is to follow in the footsteps of MLS team, Portland Timbers, with whom we share many market similarities."
On Friday, tickets will be sold at a discounted rate of $5. Guests who wear Riverhounds jerseys from 2012 or years past will receive free admission. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
The Riverhounds complete their season on August 18 as they travel to New York to take on league rivals, Rochester Rhinos.
