Riverhounds Host Arizona SC at Highmark Stadium
September 5, 2014 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC News Release
Two months of playing nearly every match on the brink of elimination all comes down to the final game of the season. The Pittsburgh Riverhounds will host Arizona United SC Saturday night at 7:00PM EST in an absolute must-win match at Highmark Stadium.
"This is what we've played for - a chance," said interim head coach Niko Katic, "you play to get yourself back to a respectable level, and then you see what comes of it."
"Everyone wrote us off three months ago, but here we are....last game of the season still with a shot to get in."
The Hounds need to come away with all three points to have any chance of making the USL PRO playoffs. They are also going to need some help from other teams. A win over Arizona and either a Rochester loss to Wilmington on Sunday, or Harrisburg dropping both games of their back-to-back weekend schedule against Charleston and Charlotte will earn the Hounds a playoff spot.
Arizona United was eliminated from playoff contention after last weekend's league action. In their last contest on August 25th, Arizona dropped the match to the Seattle Sounders FC Reserves 5-1.
This will be the second meeting this season between the two teams in just three weeks. Arizona scored two quick goals early in the second half to cruise past the visiting Hounds, 3-1. Missing regulars Jose Angulo, Joseph Ngwenya, Danny Earls proved to be too much for the Hounds to overcome as they struggled to generate any offensive threat for much of the game. Forward Mackenzie Pridham scored the Riverhounds lone goal.
Hunter Gilstrap will get his second consecutive start in net as Michael Lisch has been recalled to the Houston Dynamo. Forward Jason Johnson will also be with the MLS side and unavailable this weekend.
The Riverhounds' have seven wins in their past 11 and five-straight at Highmark Stadium.
All fans in attendance will receive a Riverhounds aluminum water bottle courtesy of Highmark. There will also be a free raffle for tomorrow nights game jerseys.
Limited seats remain at ticketmaster.com. The game will also be streamed live on YouTube.
