Riverhounds 2023 Season Opener, Home Opener Announced

PITTSBURGH -Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC will be back in front of its home crowd at Highmark Stadium with a special Friday night contest, as the team hosts Miami FC in their 2023 home opener on March 24, the USL Championship announced today as part of a league-wide opening-game reveal.

The Hounds' first game in front of the home faithful falls in the third week of the USL Championship season, two weeks after the team will open its 2023 regular season on Saturday, March 11 with a road match at Birmingham Legion FC. That is a rematch of last year's Eastern Conference Quarterfinal that saw the Hounds advance on penalty kicks at Protective Stadium in Birmingham, Ala.

Those are the only two Hounds matches included in the league's home opener announcement, and times for those games will be announced at a later date. The full 34-game USL Championship schedule is slated to be revealed this Monday, Jan. 9.

This year's home opener against Miami will kick off the Hounds' 11th season at Highmark Stadium - the team's 24th season overall - and it will match up two playoff teams from a season ago. The Hounds picked up a 4-1 win over Miami in the teams' most recent meeting, July 9, 2022 in Pittsburgh. The game will also be just the third Friday night Hounds game at Highmark Stadium since the start of the 2019 season.

Last season, the Hounds finished 16-9-9 in the regular season before advancing to the Eastern Conference Semifinals. It was the team's fifth consecutive playoff berth under head coachBob Lilley, a streak that is the second-longest active streak among USL Championship teams and the longest in club history.
