RiverHawks trade pitchers for infielder

ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Rockford RiverHawks are bringing another infielder into the spring-training mix.

Today, the RiverHawks announced the trade of pitchers Jaime Saldana and Cooper Eddy to the Mid-Missouri Mavericks in exchange for infielder Tom Syska.

Syska made his professional debut last year with brief stints with three Northern League clubs. The right-handed hitter hit a combined .263 with three RBI in 12 games among Joliet, Schaumburg and Gary. He never played a game for the Mavericks. Syska, 23, is a native of Chicago Ridge and has rookie status in the Frontier League.

Saldana was 4-2 with a 2.59 earned-run average in nine games for Rockford last year. Eddy joined Rockford for spring training.

The season starts at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday at Gateway. The home opener is at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, against the River City Rascals.

The RiverHawks are the defending champions of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league that will play its 13th season in 2005. Season tickets, suites and 10-game mini-season plans are available by calling the box office. All games are broadcasted live on WRHL-FM, 102.3 – the Hub.
