RiverHawks Squeeze Out 6-2 Win

ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford RiverHawks manufactured a winning rally and beat the Ohio Valley Redcoats, 6-2.

The RiverHawks scored three times in the fourth inning to take a 4-2 lead and go on to win their third game in a row, in front of 1,589 at Marinelli Field.

The first three batters of the inning reached base against Ohio Valley starter Chris Jakubauskas (1-2). Ashley Farr singled in the tying run and Gooby Gerlits drove in the go-ahead run on a groundout.

With one down, Farr scored from third when Ryan Larson dropped down a sacrifice bunt on a squeeze play.

Rockford starter John Richards hit three Redcoats in the first three innings, but did not allow a hit after Nick Batkoski doubled home a run in the third. Richards (2-1) went six innings for the win.

Game two of the three-game series is at 7:05 p.m. Saturday. The RiverHawks will don throwback jerseys inspired by the 1980s Houston Astros' rainbow tops. Throwback Jersey Night is sponsored by Bisconti Computers, WKGL-FM and the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Following the game, the MDA will auction off game-worn jerseys of all the players and coaches, as well as Rocko the mascot. Proceeds will benefit the MDA.The entire run of these highly collectible items is just 35, so fans are urged to be generous and support Jerry's Kids. The players will autograph their jerseys for the winning bidders following the auction.

The RiverHawks are the defending champions of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league in its 13th season. All games are broadcasted live on WRHL-FM, 102.3 - the Hub.
