Richmond RiverDogs News Release
RICHMOND, VA-Joey Bastien's two goals, Mike Oliveira's two assists and a 13-round shootout sent the Richmond Coliseum crowd of 4,000 home happy as the RiverDogs defeat the Roanoke Valley Vipers by the score of 5-4. The RiverDogs got on the board first on a power play goal from Joey Bastien at 11:38. The Vipers got a pair of goals early in the 2nd frame to put the Vipers in front 2-1. Richmond struck for three straight on tallies from Joey Bastien, his second of the night, Rafal Martynowski and Warren Cooper to make the score 4-2 as the 2nd period came to a close. Roanoke Valley came right back with goals from Mike Kenney and Mark Scott to tie as the game came down to it's conclusion. At the end of regulation, a full-scale line brawl took place on the ice. Both goaltenders met at center ice but did not exchange punches. When the fracas ended, Bobby Kukulka and R.C. Lyke were given fighting penalties and game misconducts while David Beauregard received a minor penalty and misconduct. Both goaltenders, Mike D'Alessandro and Roanoke Valley's Shawn Conschafter were given minor penalties. The penalties to Beauregard were very costly to the Vipers since it kept him out of the shootout. The shootout went thirteen rounds before the RiverDogs J.J. Wrobel ended the affair on his second attempt.
The two teams collide again tomorrow afternoon at the Roanoke Civic Center with faceoff at 5:00. The RiverDogs return to the Richmond Coliseum on Wednesday night to face the Adirondack Frostbite. Puck drop is 7:05 pm.
