CHARLESTON, SC - Third baseman Eduardo Nunez collected three hits and C.J. Henry scored three times as the Charleston RiverDogs bounced the Savannah Sand Gnats, 4-3, in South Atlantic League action Sunday afternoon at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park to complete a series sweep.

With the victory, the RiverDogs have won four straight games and seven of their last ten to improve to 33-30. Savannah, which had swept Charleston in a four-game series two weeks back, falls to 24-39.

The RiverDogs got a fourth consecutive strong starting pitching performance, as Brian Villalona (5-3) went six shutout innings. Villalona allowed only two hits and struck out a pair.

S.A.L. All-Star Cory Stuart pitched the final two innings to secure his sixth save of the season in as many chances. Stuart got Jose Contreras to bounce into a controversial fielder's choice to the third baseman Nunez to end the game with runners at first and second.

After Savannah scored a run in the ninth on two hits and an error, the Sand Gnats had the tying run at second and the go-ahead run at first with one out. But Stuart fanned pinch-hitting All-Star Brian Peacock for the second out.

Contreras then dribbled a grounder to Nunez who bobbled the ball momentarily, and attempted to pick the ball up with his foot on third base. The base umpire ruled Nunez did so just before Michael Daniel slid into the bag for a force out that ended the contest.

Charleston scored twice in the second inning against Savannah All-Star southpaw Gene Yost (3-3), as Henry opened the frame with a triple to the right field corner and scored on Nunez's double to left.

After Tim Battle singled, Nunez scored on Kevin Nelson's groundout to hand the RiverDogs a quick 2-0 lead, one they would not relinquish.

The hosts plated another run in the third on a Nunez RBI double to left field, again plating Henry who had also doubled. Charleston tallied one more run in the fifth as Henry, who drew a walk, scored when Nunez bunted and Sand Gants catcher Erick San Pedro threw wildly to first base.

Savannah scored two runs in the seventh inning on a RBI single by Michael Daniel and scratched an unearned run on second baseman Mario Holmann's fielding miscue.

The Sand Gnats were led offensively by Francisco Plasencia, who had three of the team's eight hits.

Henry and Battle each had a pair of knocks for Charleston.

Yost, who lasted only four innings, suffered the after allowing eight hits and three earned runs while walking one and striking out four.

The RiverDogs' seven-game home stand continues Monday at 7:05 p.m. as the Boston Red Sox S.A.L. affiliate Greenville Drive come to Riley Park for a four-game set. Newcomer Erick Abreu (NR) is slated to make his pitching debut for Charleston.
