
Catfish fall 7-5 in series finale with Rome

Columbus, GA - The Catfish (34-29) fell just short of the Rome Braves (40-23) Sunday, losing 7-5 in the third and final game of the series. Columbus collected 10 hits, but hit into four double plays, including one by RF Sergio Pedroza with the bases loaded to end the game.
Rome took a 6-0 lead with four runs in the second inning and two more in the third, but the Columbus bats got started in the fourth inning. With two outs Pedroza walked before LF Drew Locke smacked his seventh home run of the season to make the score 6-2.
The Catfish added two more runs in the fifth inning. With runners on second and third CF Adam Godwin singled to right field to bring Columbus within two at 6-4.
Rome extended the lead with one run in the sixth inning. Down 7-4 the Catfish rallied in the ninth inning. They led off the inning with three consecutive singles by 1B David Sutherland, C Juan Apodaca and 2B Shane Justis. Godwin then walked with the bases loaded to score Sutherland. SS Ivan DeJesus struck out and then Pedroza grounded into a double play to end the game.
Starter RHP Dave Horlacher (0-1) gave up six runs, four earned, in two innings and took the loss. The Catfish bullpen followed with seven strikeouts in seven innings while giving up just one run on three hits and three walks.
LHP Beau Jones (2-2) earned the win for Rome. He allowed four runs in five innings. LHP Adam Stanley faced just one hitter, Pedroza, and picked up his first save.
