The Hickory Crawdads spotted the West Virginia Power five runs Sunday afternoon. Then the âDads ran off eight straight runs of their own in an 8-5 win in front of 2,368 fans at L.P. Frans Stadium.
The Power reached for five against Hickory starter Luis Valdez in the second inning. With two on and one out, Power 2B Mike Bell singled in both runs to make it 2-0. Immediately the âDads answered in the bottom of the second. Crawdad 1B Mike Carlin and RF Brad Corley hit back-to-back homers off of Power starter Kevin Roberts to start the rally. Crawdad 2B Tony Mansolino singled, moved to second on an error, took third on a ground ball out, and made it 5-3 scoring on a wild pitch.
Trailing 5-3 in the third, Crawdad SS Brent Lillibridge led off and drew a walk. Hickory 3B Eddie Prasch tripled home Lillibridge to make it 5-4. âDads CF Andrew McCutchen tied the game with a single. Carlin gave Hickory the lead and drove Roberts from the game with an RBI base hit to make it 6-5. Robert Wooley replaced Roberts and with one out allowed an RBI single to Mansolino. The fifth run of the inning and final run of the game scored on a single by LF Jason Delaney and an error to make it 8-5.
Garavito (3-5) picked up the win pitching four and one-third innings of scoreless, one hit relief. Derek Antelo pitched two run free innings for Hickory. Justin Vaclavik struck out one and did not yield a run earning his third save with a hitless ninth.
