Charleston, SC - Despite suffering the loss, Greenville Drive starting pitcher Ryan Phillips looked solid in his first start of the 2006 season. Phillips, who was activated from the disabled list Saturday after missing the first 62 games of the season with a right intercostal strain, allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits and three walks over 3.2 innings. The left-hander also struck out four. The 2-1 loss dropped the Drive to 33-30 on the season.

The RiverDogs jumped out to an early 1-0 lead by scoring in the bottom of the first inning on no hits. The Drive had two costly errors which led to Charleston plating the run. Austin Jackson led off the inning by reaching base on a throwing error by Greenville second baseman Dominic Ramos. After stealing second, Jackson advanced to third when Marcos Vechionacci reached on a throwing error by shortstop Christian Lara. Jackson was then able to score on a balk by Phillips.

Charleston would extend their lead to 2-0 by adding another run in the bottom of the third. Vechionacci and Jose Tabata led off the inning with back-to-back singles. Vechionacci then advanced to third as Ben Jones hit into a double play. C.J. Henry followed with a single to right, plating Vechionacci.

Greenville would score their only run of the game in the top of the sixth off RiverDogs reliever David Seccombe. With one out, catcher designated hitter Mark Wagner reached with a walk. Two batters later, Mike Leonard hit a two-out single. Chris Turner then delivered a single to center, knocking in Wagner from second.

Drive reliever Hunter Jones tossed 3.1 scoreless innings in relief of Phillips, allowing three hits while striking out six. Blake Maxwell also tossed a shutout inning, his first scoreless outing in a week.

The Drive and RiverDogs continue their four-game series Tuesday night at Joseph P. Riley Park with first pitch set for 7:05 PM. Greenville will send right-hander Chris Jones to the mound as Charleston will counter with left-hander Abel Gomez.

The Drive return home to West End Field on June 16 to closeout the first half of the regular season with a three-game series versus the Asheville Tourists. Tickets to all Drive home games can be purchased by calling the Drive Ticket Office at 864-240-4528 or online at www.GreenvilleDrive.com.

NOTES: Jay Johnson (1-for-4) extended his hitting streak to 12-games in which he is batting .321 (17-for-53), with a home run, 12 RBI, and 10 runs scored...Dominic Ramos (2-for-5) was the only Drive batter to have multiple hits
