TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: The fourth of nine meetings and the second of five here. The âDogs are 3-0 vs. the Beacons, 1-0 here. Jay Murphy has six points vs. Port Huron. Barry McKinlay has three vs. Richmond. All three goalies used by the âDogs this season have a win vs. the Beacons. The âDogs lead the Eastern Conference by nine points over second place Flint. The Beacons are third in the East, three points behind Flint and one up on Elmira.
LAST ACTION: Richmond lost 8-4 to Elmira here Saturday. The âDogs had four leads in the game but allowed five power play goals and one goal shorthanded. David Brosseau had a goal and three assists for the âDogs. Richard Pitirri had three assists. The eight goals against and five power play goals against equaled season highs. Peter Bournazakis had four goals and an assist for the Jackals. The Beacons won 3-2 in a shootout Sunday at Kalamazoo. Benoit Genesse scored the game-winner in the shootout. Stu Dunn stopped all five Wings in the shootout and made 31 saves in regulation. The Beacons were out-shot 33-18.
'DOG BITES: The RiverDogs are winless in four straight games after an 11 game unbeaten streak. The 'Dogs 12 game home unbeaten streak and 16 game unbeaten streak vs. Eastern Conference clubs ended Saturday with a loss to Elmira. The 'Dogs were unbeaten in regulation in their previous 10 games with the Jackals. Richmond allowed only 36 goals in a span of 19 games prior to giving up a season-high-tying eight Saturday vs. Elmira. Richmond has out-shot opponents in the last two games after they were out-shot in eight straight games. Richmond suffered three one goal losses in the last four games after taking only one one-goal loss in their first 48 games. Saturday's game marked only the second time all season that the 'Dogs lost a game in regulation after scoring the first goal. Richmond plays five games in five nights this week. Maxime Gingras' streak of six straight games allowing two or fewer goals in regulation ended Saturday. J.F. Picard, Jeremy Wray, and Anthony DiPalma will not play this week due to injuries. Jay Murphy is 20th in the league in points, he is second in game-winning-goals with six. Maxime Gingras is fifth in the UHL in goals against average and wins. He is third in shutouts. The âDogs still lead the UHL in penalty minutes. The âDogs embark upon a nine game road trip following Friday's game.
BEACONS NOTES: Port Huron features three of the UHL's top 16 scorers: Jason Firth (10th), Michel Beausoleil (11th), and Brent Gretzky (16th). The Beacons are in a stretch of eight games in 10 days. Port Huron is last in the UHL in shots on goal allowed.
NEXT UP: Richmond hosts Port Huron again Wednesday at 7:05. The âDogs battle Adirondack Friday at 7:35. It is RiverDogs Team Photo Poster Night with free âDogs team photo posters for all fans.
