
Six game streak propels Komets to first in West

LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO--- The Fort Wayne Komets (36-13-4) completed the 18th week of the regular season riding a six-game winning streak and own the top spot in the Western Conference.
This past week, the Komets extended their winning streak with three wins, including two shootout victories to remain four points ahead of the second place Muskegon Fury (33-13-6) and seven points in front of the third place Quad City Mallards (33-17-3).
Fort Wayne defeated the Flint Generals 3-2 in a shootout on Wednesday to open the week and upended the Fury 3-2 in a shootout on Friday. The Komets completed their perfect week with a 4-1 victory over the Rockford IceHogs (22-28-3) on Saturday.
The defending Colonial Cup Champions have lost in regulation twice in their last 22 games, posting an impressive 18-2-2 record. The Komets have outscored the opposition 86 to 42, holding their opponents to one goal or less in 11 games during that span.
Fort Wayne currently leads the UHL in wins (36) and winning percentage (.717). The Komets own the league's best goal against average (2.42 GAA) and have held UHL teams to a league-low 26.13 shots per game.
The Western Conference leading Komets remain undefeated in regulation when leading after two periods of action, registering a 29-0-2 record this season.
Fort Wayne hosts three Western Conference rivals this week, including the Mallards on Wednesday, the Missouri River Otters on Saturday and the Kalamazoo Wings on Sunday.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
David Brosseau-Richmond completed the 18th week of the season registering five-points (1g, 4a) and a plus-three rating in two games. He opened the week dishing out one assist in Friday's 3-2 shootout loss to the Elmira Jackals. The 28-year-old Laval, Quebec native notched four points (1g, 3a) in Saturday's 8-4 loss to the Jackals. Brosseau currently ranks fifth among RiverDogs scorers with 27 points (12g, 15a) in just 28 games played this season.
Other players nominated for the Sher-Wood UHL Player of the Week include: Adirondack forward Jaro Cesky, Elmira right wing Peter Bournazakis, Flint right wing Bobby Reynolds, Fort Wayne left wing Bobby Stewart, Kalamazoo defenseman Daniel Carriere, Missouri forward Jeff Petruic, Muskegon right wing Scott Hollis, Port Huron right wing Ian Jacobs, Quad City center Jason Goulet and Rockford defenseman Bob Nardella.
GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK
Sylvain Daigle-Muskegon completed the 18th week of the season posting a 1-0-1 record, a 1.50 goals against average (GAA) and a .949 save percentage (SPCT) to earn his second UHL Goaltender of the Week Award. Daigle successfully turned away 48 of 51 shots on goal for the week and held the IceHawks scoreless after the 4:05 mark of the first period. The 27-year-old St. Hyacinthe, Quebec native was named December 2003 UHL Goaltender of the Month and garnered UHL Goaltender of the Week honors for Week Seven (Week ending December 7, 2003). Daigle currently leads the league in minutes played (2629) and saves (1338) and ranks second in the UHL with 29 wins.
Other players nominated for the UHL Goaltender of the Week include: Adirondack's Olivier Dannel, Elmira's Ryan McIntosh, Flint's Dan McIntyre, Fort Wayne's Kevin St. Pierre, Kalamazoo's Chad Alban, Missouri's Tim Knudsen, Port Huron's Stu Dunn, Quad City's Jeff Reynaert, Richmond's Maxime Gingras and Rockford's Ronnie Vogel.
AROUND THE LEAGUE: EASTERN CONFERENCE
Adirondack IceHawks (0-2-1 for the week, 20-26-8 overall) The IceHawks have connected nine times on their last 32 power play chances... Left wing Hugo Belanger is four points away from hitting the 1,100 point mark as a professional... Forward Jason Vermeulen netted four goals in the IceHawks last five road games.
Elmira Jackals (3-0-0 for the week, 23-24-6 overall) The Jackals put together a two-game sweep of Richmond, including a 3-2 shootout win on Friday an 8-4 win on Saturday... Right wing Peter Bournazakis completed the hat trick plus one, finishing with four goals and one assist on Saturday night... Left wing J.F. Boutin has tallied 12 points in his last six games.
Flint Generals (2-0-1 for the week, 25-21-6 overall) The Generals came from behind in all three games in the third period this week to grab five of the six possible points... Left wing Jim Duhart appeared in his 400th game as a General on Saturday... Center Colin Embley netted his first goal as a General on Saturday against Quad City.
Port Huron Beacons (1-2-2 for the week, 24-21-5 overall) The Beacons are fifth in the UHL in goals, averaging 3.28 goals per game... Center Jason Firth is three points away from becoming the UHL's all-time point leader... Center Ben Genesse is second among all rookies with 37 points (13g, 24a).
Richmond RiverDogs (0-1-1 for the week, 30-17-5 overall) The RiverDogs play five games in five nights this week... Allowed only 36 goals in 19 games prior to Saturday's loss...Goaltender Maxime Gingras is second in the league with four shutouts... 24-1-3 when leading after two periods of action.
AROUND THE LEAGUE: WESTERN CONFERENCE
Fort Wayne Komets (3-0-0 for the week, 36-13-4 overall) The Komets are riding a current league-high six-game winning streak... Play at home for the next two weeks with a five-game home stand...Netminder Kevin St. Pierre notched his 30th win of the season on Saturday becoming the UHL's first goalie to do so this season... Left wing Bobby Stewart tallied his 400th career point on Saturday.
Kalamazoo Wings (2-0-2 for the week, 27-16-8 overall) The K-Wings are 14-3-7 at home this season... K-Wings blueliners have scored seven of the team's last eight goals... Right wing Marty Flichel has tallied 10 points in his last 10 games and leads the K-Wings with 51 points.
Missouri River Otters (1-1-0 for the week, 13-33-7 overall) The River Otters have won three of their last four shootouts... Had a season-high 50 shots on goal in Saturday's 4-3 shootout victory over Port Huron... Forward Jesse Heerema has returned from the IR and still ranks third among rookies with a 15.5 shooting percentage.
Muskegon Fury (1-0-1 for the week, 33-13-6 overall) The Fury have gone 10-0-5 in their last 15 games with their last regulation loss occurring over nine weeks ago... Right wing Robin Bouchard leads the UHL with 40 goals... Center Todd Robinson has amassed a league-high 61 assists.
Quad City Mallards (2-1-0 for the week, 33-17-3 overall) The Mallards rank second in the league in attendance, averaging 5,080 fans per game this season... Right wing Jason Sessa leads the league with seven game-winning goals... Netminder Jeff Reynaert ranks second in the UHL with a .917 save percentage.
Rockford IceHogs (1-2-0 for the week, 22-28-3 overall) The IceHogs have posted a 10-2-0 record when leading after two periods... Forward Dave Paradise's current nine-game assist streak ties a franchise-record... Defenseman Bob Nardella has an eight-game assist streak...Center Steve Cygan has a point in seven of his last eight games.
