TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: The 15th of 17 meetings and the eighth and final here. The âDogs are 8-6 vs. the Jackals, 5-2 at the Coliseum. David Hymovitz and Ryan Prentice have 13 points vs. the Jackals. Jason Sessa has 23 vs. the âDogs. The âDogs are third in the East, 12 points ahead of the fourth place Jackals. Richmond is tied with Flint in the wild card chase.
LAST ACTION: The âDogs beat Elmira 6-3 here last night. The Jackals took three different one-goal leads only to see the âDogs rally each time. Richmond shattered a 3-3 tie with a three goal third period. David Hymovitz and Brett Cross scored two goals each for the âDogs. Eddy Lowe had a goal and two assists for the Jackals. The âDogs out-shot Elmira 46-20. Richmond was 2-3 on the power play and 3-3 on the penalty kill.
'DOG BITES: Richmond goes after a third straight win tonight. That would equal a season high. The âDogs have had four three-game winning streaks. Richmond has fired 94 shots on goal in their last two games. Last night's 46 shots equaled the second highest total of the season. The âDogs have fired 40-plus shots in back to back games for the first time this season. The âDogs out-shot Elmira by a season high 26 last night. The 'Dogs are 3-2 on a six game homestand. The 'Dogs are 12 for their last 33 on the power play (36.3%) and 36 for their last 40 on the penalty kill (90%) over a nine game stretch. The âDogs power play has improved to third best in the league. David Hymovitz has points in five straight games. Hymovitz is tied for third in the league in scoring. Nathan Grobins is tied for fifth in the league in shutouts. Kyle Sheen is tied for second in the league in game winning goals by a rookie and leads the league's rookies in penalty minutes. Luch Nasato is tied for third in points by a defenseman. Following tomorrow night's game, the âDogs play 15 of their next 18 on the road.
JACKALS NOTES: The Jackals have lost six straight games. Greg Hewitt leads the league in minutes played by a goaltender, saves, and losses. Jason Sessa is second in the league in power play goals with 14. Elmira is 2-12-1 in their last 15 games. Tonight is the third of a three game road trip for the JackalsThe Jackals last two wins have come in shootouts. Their last regulation win was January 7 vs. Richmond.
NEXT UP: The âDogs hit the road for four straight, starting Wednesday at Motor City. Richmond returns home Friday, February 25 vs. Adirondack at 7:35 PM.
