Rockford IceHogs News Release
Rockford, Ill.- A well balanced Rockford IceHogs offense helped beat the Flint Generals 4-1 on Friday night in front of 3,670 at the Rockford MetroCentre. The IceHogs received 11 points from 11 different scorers and goalie Michel Robinson stopped 29 shots to pick up the win.
Rookie center Miguel Lafleche began the scoring at 8:35 of the first period when he fired in a 2-on-1 breakaway past goalie Marco Emond. Brent Sullivan and Rod Aldoff set up Lafleche's tally. The Hogs made score 2-0 at 7:29 of the second period after center J.C. Ruid batted in a rebound helped by Olivier Proulx and Steve Pelletier.
The Generals cut the lead in half at the beginning of the second when defenseman Kam White blasted in a marker at 1:37. The Hogs responded however with a pair of insurance goals to put the game out of reach. Jason Ralph converted another 2-on-1 breakaway for Rockford with Alex Kim at 8:42 before winger Eric Labelle finished the scoring at 16:28 with helpers going to Eric Skaug and Bruce Watson.
Neither team converted a power play opportunity as Rockford went 0-for-7 and Flint went 0-for-6. Despite keeping Flint in the game with 39 saves, including several acrobatic saves, Emond was saddled with the loss. The Hogs and Generals have now split the first four games in the five game season series.
Next Home Game: Saturday, February 12 vs. Adirondack Frostbite. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. The Frostbite make their only stop in Rockford during the regular season. Come and meet Chuckie from the popular Nickelodeon show Rugrats and don't forget your camera! Chuckie is brought to you by Insight Communication and Y-95 FM.
