TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: The third of nine meetings and the first of five at Richmond. âDogs are 2-0 vs. the Beacons. Richard Pitirri and Kevin St. Jacques each have four points vs. the Beacons. Brent Gretzky and Barry McKinlay have two vs. the âDogs. All four Beacons goals in the series have come in the third period. The âDogs lead the Eastern Conference by 12 points over Flint. The Beacons are third in the East, three points back of the Generals.
LAST ACTION: Richmond beat Adirondack 3-1 Saturday in Glens Falls. The âDogs overcame a 1-0 deficit with three goals in less than 3:30 in the first period. Ryan Aschaber made 34 saves in his first start with the âDogs Richard Pitirri, Eric Perricone, and Jay Murphy scored for Richmond. Port Huron lost 8-1 at Elmira last night. The Jackals erupted for four first period goals. Port Huron out-shot Elmira 40-38.
'DOG BITES: Richmond is unbeaten in regulation in 10 straight games (9-0-1). The âDogs have won four in a row. Richmond is 11-1-3 in their last 15 games. The âDogs have won six straight home games and are unbeaten in 10 straight at home. The âDogs have allowed only 27 goals in their last 15 games. Richmond had a streak of 19 straight penalty kills end last night. The âDogs are 23 for their last 24 on the penalty kill. Richmond snapped an 0-17 power play slump last night. The âDogs are playing their third game in three nights in three cities tonight. Richmond concludes a stretch of five games in six nights tonight. The âDogs are a season high 15 games over .500 Richmond is 20-1-2 when scoring first David Brosseau's three game scoring streak ended last night. Maxime Gingras streak of 18 straight starts in net ended last night. Richmond leads the UHL in penalty minutes. Gingras is fourth in the UHL in goals against average. He is third in goaltender wins and shutouts. Kevin St. Jacques is tied for 13th in the league in scoring. Richmond has been out-shot in four straight games.
BEACONS NOTES: The Beacons are playing their fourth game in four nights in four cities. Port Huron features three of the league's top 12 scorers: Brent Gretzky is 10th, Jason Firth is 11th, and Michel Beausoleil is 12th. This is the third of a three game road trip. The Beacons have not lost in regulation this season when leading after two periods (16-0-1). The Beacons have allowed the most shots on goal in the UHL (36.6 per game).
NEXT UP: Richmond hits the road for games at Muskegon next Saturday (7:20 100.3) and Ft. Wayne next Sunday (5:05 100.3). The âDogs return home Friday and Saturday February 20 and 21 vs. the Elmira Jackals. Game time both nights is 7:35.
AROUND THE UHL: Last night the âDogs beat Adirondack 3-1, Port Huron lost at Elmira 8-1, Flint won at Ft. Wayne 4-2, Missouri beat Muskegon 5-4 in a shootout, and Kalamazoo edged Rockford 5-4. Quad City was idle. There are three other games in the league today: Adirondack at Elmira, Muskegon at Kalamazoo, and Flint at Quad City.
