Mallards outplay, outscore Flint, 6-2

Moline, IL – In a game where speed and skill were the dominant features, the Quad City Mallards showed plenty of both in defeating the Flint Generals, 6-2, Sunday at The MARK of the Quad Cities. The Mallards are unbeaten in regulation (7-0-1) in their last eight home games and have scored an average of 6.38 goals per game during the streak.

Center Jeff Williams scored the lone first period goal, knocking in a rebound of a shot by rookie forward Drew Otten. Quad City made it 2-0 with a shorthanded goal in the second, when center Jason Goulet, skating through the right circle, was hooked down to his knees, but still fed right wing Jason Sessa perfectly in front of the net for the score. Williams scored again late in the period, and the Mallards led 3-1 at second intermission.

Quad City added three more goals in the third. Sessa returned the favor, assisting on a Jason Goulet score to make it 4-1. Rookie Marty Goulet bounced the puck over outstretched goaltender Jan Chovan (38 saves) for a 5-1 edge. Defenseman Tom Menicci found a loose puck in the slot and slid it under Chovan's leg pad for a 6-1 score. Flint's Martin Woods scored on a last-second rink-long shot for the final score.

Jason Goulet finished with a goal and two assists. Otten and right wing Hugo Proulx each had a pair of assists. Goaltender Jeff Reynaert made 24 saves to earn his 23rd win of the season.

The Mallards visit the Missouri River Otters on Friday at 7:30 p.m. They then return home to play the Muskegon Fury on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. on Sprint Scratch Card Giveaway Night. The following day, it's i wireless Family Fun-Day Sunday with the Adirondack IceHawks invading The MARK for a 4:00 p.m. contest. NOTES: Williams passed Stas Tkatch for ninth place in franchise history with 57 goals in regular season play...Williams extended his home goal-scoring streak to six games and his home point-scoring streak to 11 games...Sessa also has an 11-game home point-scoring streak...Menicci has a goal in four straight games...The Mallards lead the United Hockey League with 16 shorthanded goals...With his fifth shorthanded goal of the season, Sessa is three short of the franchise single season record of eight, set by Glenn Stewart in 1999-00.
