Rivera Lifts Mets Past Miracle 6-5

T.J. Rivera ripped a go-ahead bases clearing double in a four-run seventh inning as the Mets rallied past the Fort Myers Miracle 6-5 on Saturday at Tradition Field.

The Miracle trailed 6-4 in the ninth inning with the bases loaded and two outs. A.J. Petterson's grounder hit off the glove of third baseman Rylan Sandoval for an RBI infield single . Stephen Wickens tried to score on the play from second, but the ball was kept in the infield by shortstop Matt Reynolds and he threw out Wickens at home plate to end the game.

Domingo Tapia was very effective on the mound and pitched seven innings while allowed two unearned runs while striking out six and walking one. Frank Francisco tossed a scoreless inning in relief on a major league rehab assignment.

Randy Fontanez walked three batters in the ninth and was charged with three runs. Hamilton Bennett picked up his second save of the season as he struck out two in the ninth to hold off the Miracle.

Matt Reynolds went 3-for-4 with an RBI single while Travis Taijeron added an RBI double in the eighth inning.

The Mets will visit the Charlotte Stone Crabs on Sunday at 5:30 p.m. Hansel Robles is the scheduled starter for the Mets.
