
River Riders Turn Pitcher's Duel into Slugfest, Win 9-2 in Greeneville

GREENEVILLE, TN --- The Elizabethton River Riders defeated the Greeneville Flyboys 9-2 at Pioneer Park in Greeneville. Shortstop Marcus Brown (Oklahoma State University) hit his first home run in the winning effort.
The River Riders (16-12) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a sacrifice fly by right fielder Garrison Berkely (Texas Christian University) to score left fielder DJ Sullivan (Florence-Darlington Tech) from third.
In the bottom of the second, the Flyboys (16-11-1) tied the game on an RBI double by second baseman Daylen Reyes (Daylen Reyes) to score designated hitter Tayler Aguilar (Grand Canyon University).
Elizabethton scored one run in the top of the fourth on an infield single by designated hitter Sam Thompson (Texas Christian University) to score Brown from third.
Greeneville responded in the bottom half of the fourth with an RBI double by Eddie Micheletti (George Washington) to score Aguilar from second, 2-2.
E-Town took the lead in the top of the sixth with a one-out double by Thompson to score Brown from second. Third baseman Robin Fernandez (St.Thomas) tripled to score Thompson before scoring on a wild pitch, 5-2 River Riders.
In the top of the seventh, with one out, Brown hit his first home run of the season to right-center field, scoring second baseman John Montes (University of Central Florida) and first baseman Chase Adkison (Oklahoma State University), 8-2 River Riders.
Centerfielder Logan Sanders (Pima) scored on an error by Flyboys catcher Darius Perry (UCLA), 9-0 Elizabethton.
The River Riders will return to Greeneville tomorrow to finish the two-game series with the opportunity to lead the West Division for the first time this season. First pitch is at 7.
