
River Riders Take Opening Day in Comeback Fashion

Elizabethton River Riders News Release
Elizabethton, Tn - The Elizabethton River Riders (1-0) defeated the Greeneville Flyboys (0-1). Robin Fernandez had the first hit in River Riders history.
History was made in the second inning when first baseman Christian Ficca had the first hit in Flyboy history, a single to center. The first RBI in Flyboy history came in the 4th inning when designated hitter Grant Lashure hit a single to left to bring in second baseman, Derick Tenney.
Greeneville's final run came in the top of the sixth when catcher Eddie Miccheletti hit a double to left, scoring Grant Lashure.
The River Riders were down to two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning when Robin Fernandez hit a double to right. Eli Young recorded the River Riders' first RBI with a hard hit ground ball toward second to score Fernandez. Second baseman Trey Hinton walked before Robert Bavon tripled with a line drive to right, putting the River Riders in the lead 3-2.
Elizabethton built on their lead in the seventh, sending up eight batters without recording a hit. The inning started with designated hitter Logan Estep being hit by a pitch and later scoring on a wild pitch. Shortstop John Montes reached on an error by first baseman Christian Ficca and later scored when Eli Young was hit by a pitch.
Five Elizabethton pitchers were used in the win and combined for 12 strikeouts and only one walk. The win and save of the game will be decided by Major League by noon the following day of the game.
Friday Night is fireworks night at Northeast Community Credit Union Ballpark. Fans can come to watch their River Riders finish their inaugural home series with the Greeneville Flyboys and post-game fireworks.
