The Elizabethton River Riders beat the Kingsport Axmen by a final score of 17-14. Elizabethton had an early 5-0 lead going into the top of the third inning. The Axmen scored their first run in the third on a Sam Petersen RBI single. Petersen hit for the cycle, going 4-for-4
The Elizabethton River Riders beat the Kingsport Axmen by a final score of 17-14.
Elizabethton had an early 5-0 lead going into the top of the third inning. The Axmen scored their first run in the third on a Sam Petersen RBI single. Petersen hit for the cycle, going 4-for-4 with four RBIs, four runs scored and two stolen bases. The fourth was the only inning without runs scored.
The Axmen (25-10) stormed back to take their first lead of the night after a six-run top of the fifth. Both Petersen and Jake Perry walked home a run with the bases loaded, Kendall Diggs hit a 3-RBI bases-clearing double and Kyle Booker singled home Diggs.
Kingsport added to its 7-5 lead with three more runs in the sixth.Petersen and Perry hit back-to-back home runs. Petersen now leads the Axmen with four home runs on the year.
The River Riders (17-18) scored 10 runs in the bottom of the sixth, which is the most Kingsport has allowed in a single inning.
Trailing 15-10 in the seventh, the Axmen recorded their second straight three-run inning to cut the Elizabethton lead to two. The River Riders scored one run each in the seventh and eighth inning to take a 17-13 lead.
Kingsport scored one run in the ninth and lost by three runs in the wildest game of the season.
The Axmen look to bounce back, as they begin a three-game series against the Flyboys in Tusculum on Friday night.
