Elizabethton River Riders News Release

ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. - It was a tough two-game set at home against the Bristol State Liners, who came into the series a league-worst 5-18, but it did not seem to matter as Bristol blew out Elizabethton 10-3 Tuesday and 16-7 on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, things got tough pretty quick. Bristol scored seven runs in the first five innings to take a commanding 7-0 lead that they would never relinquish. The River Riders did get two in the sixth, which were quickly traded back with two in the seventh before the two teams traded a run in the last two innings, all resulting in a 10-3 Elizabethton loss.

On Wednesday night, Trevor Callahan had his best outing of the year, throwing four shutout innings for the blue and yellow. Avery Owusu-Asiedu continued to stay hot as he pounded a 1-0 pitch over the right field wall in the fourth to give the River Riders the early lead.

Brandon Nigh then hit a two-run single to give Bristol the lead in the fifth but Elizabethton tied it up in the bottom of the inning with a fielder's choice to plate a run. However, Bristol scored three in the sixth, five in the seventh and six in the eighth to take a commanding 16-2 lead, and although Elizabethton got five in the bottom of the eighth, they would ultimately fall, 16-7.

Elizabethton is back on the road Thursday against the Greeneville Flyboys with first pitch set for 7 p.m. You can listen to the game live at https://www.appyleague.com/elizabethton/audio.
