Missouri River Otters News Release
St. Charles, MO --- The Missouri River Otters of the United Hockey League are proud to announce the signings of former National Hockey League forward Barrie Moore and rookie defenseman B.J. Heckendorn.
Moore, 29, played the better part of the last three years with the Columbia Inferno of the East Coast Hockey League. In that stint, the 5'11'', 195 pound winger fired home 66 goals and racked up 93 assists in 179 games, averaging nearly one point per game.
Moore was born in London, Ontario, and will embark upon his tenth professional season. In 1996-97, he registered eight points in 31 games with the Buffalo Sabres of the NHL and 29 points in 32 games with the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League.
"Barrie is a great addition to the team," said River Otters head coach Kevin Kaminski. "A guy of his caliber with NHL and AHL experience will be a tremendous asset for our organization."
The Otters also signed 24-year-old defenseman B.J. Heckendorn. A rookie last season, this Pennsylvania native played 13 games for the Colonial Cup Champion Muskegon Fury and 43 games for the Winstem Salem T-Birds of the South East Hockey League. A solid two-way player, Heckendorn scored three goals and added 14 assists in his time with Winston Salem.
The River Otters start their Colonial Cup quest Friday, October 15 at Kansas City, and the home opener is Saturday, October 23 against Quad City.
