
River Cats thump Redbirds

MEMPHIS, TN - Sacramento scored seven runs in the first inning on their way to a 10-7 win over Memphis Sunday afternoon at AutoZone Park.
The River Cats used six hits and three walks to chase Redbirds starter P.J. Walters after just two outs and 11 batters. Former Redbird Brett Wallace led the Cats 16-hit attack with four hits, including a solo home run to right field in the fourth. Chris Denorfia, Adrian Cardenas and Anthony Recker all chipped in three hits each for Sacramento. Memphis scored five runs in the bottom of the ninth with David Freese's two-run homer capping the rally. Nick Stavinoha drove in three runs while Jon Jay and Tyler Greene each had three hits in the loss.
Sacramento starter Chad Reineke earned the win giving up two runs on seven hits over six innings. Walters took the loss allowing seven runs on six hits with three walks while recording just two outs.
Memphis and Sacramento wrap up their four-game series tomorrow night with a southpaw showdown. Evan MacLane gets the call for the 'Birds and will face River Cats lefty Dana Eveland.
