WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The Sacramento River Cats announced today that Mike Gazda has been promoted to Assistant General Manager & Director of Media Relations.

Gazda has been with the organization during each of its four seasons in Sacramento. With his promotion, he will have an expanded role in the River Cats' Baseball Operations Department, while maintaining his position as Media Relations Director.

"Mike has always played a big part in the Baseball Operations Department and has matured into what is a great fit for his new role," said River Cats Senior Vice President & General Manager Gary Arthur. "Since day one, he has been an integral part of the River Cats' success on the field, which includes three division titles and a league championship."

A native of Pittsburgh, Gazda is responsible for all aspects of the organization's Media Relations Department, including communication with media, player relations and production of the club's annual media guide and souvenir program. He also oversees the River Cats' Winter Baseball Camp and organizes the annual Players' Wives Family Food Drive.

"Mike optimizes what every business strives to achieve -- that being, the process of hiring bright, young individuals and watching them grow into leading positions of responsibility," said River Cats President & Chief Operating Officer Alan Ledford.

Prior to joining the River Cats, Gazda served as Media Relations Director for the Lake Elsinore Storm of the California League. During his time in Lake Elsinore, he also oversaw media relations for the California Fall League and the 1999 California/Carolina League All-Star Game. A graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, he began his baseball career as an intern with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The River Cats will defend their PCL Championship beginning April 8, when they open the 2004 regular season against the Edmonton Trappers in Yuma, Ariz. The club will open its home schedule at Raley Field on April 16 against the Edmonton Trappers.
