COLORADO SPRINGS - One night after clinching their record sixth-straight division title, the River Cats pitching staff limited the Sky Sox to just two runs, beating Colorado Springs by a score of 3-2 on Thursday evening at Security Service Field.

River Cats starter Travis Banwart was sharp in his 18th start of the season, allowing two earned runs, seven hits and one walk with one strikeout in six innings pitched for his ninth win of the year. His offense gave him an early lead when Jemile Weeks scored in the top of the first on a Grant Green sacrifice fly.

After the Sky Sox tied the game at one in the bottom of the third, the River Cats took the lead for the final time with a two-run four inning. They plated their first run of the inning on a fielding error from Sky Sox second baseman Charlie Culberson, and their second when Daric Barton singled-home Michal Taylor.

River Cats relievers James Simmons and Rich Thompson combined to throw three shutout innings to close out Sacramento's 3-2 victory.

Shane Peterson went 2-for-4 with a run scored, and how has two hits in nine of his last 16 games played. Weeks finished 1-for-5 with a run scored and is now hitting .419 in his seven games with the River Cats. He has hit safely in each of those seven games. Simmons notched his second hold, while Thompson tallied his third save.

The River Cats will now begin their final regular season series of the year with a four-game set in Salt Lake against the Bees. River Cats left-handed pitcher Carlos Hernandez (3-1, 2.04 ERA) will start opposite Bees righty Barry Enright (12-7, 5.01 ERA) at 6:05 p.m.
