Nashville, TN - Four pitchers combined to hold the Iowa Cubs (53-86) to seven hits in the Nashville Sounds' (66-73) 3-0 win at Greer Stadium tonight. The Cubs have lost the first three games in this series and four in a row overall. The Sounds lead the season series 9-6 and will win the season series for the seventh time in eight years against the Cubs.

Sounds' starter Hiram Burgos (2-2) allowed four hits and struck out four over six innings for the win. He didn't allow more than one base runner in any single inning and no Cub reached third while he was in the game.

Donovan Hand, Mitch Stetter, and Rob Wooten each pitched an inning to finish the game. The Cubs got runners to second and third with two outs against Hand in the seventh, but pinch-hitter Alfredo Amezaga flew out to end the inning. Anthony Recker had a two-out double in the ninth, but Wooten closed out the game for his seventh save.

Cubs' starter Ryan Rowland-Smith (3-6) allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits in five innings and suffered the loss. Logan Schafer connected on a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning. In the second, Andy Gonzalez drew a leadoff walk and went to second on a single by Jordan Brown. After a lineout, Burgos laid down a sacrifice bunt and reached when Rowland-Smith threw the ball over first and down the right field line for an error. Gonzalez scored from second on the play.

Jay Jackson followed Rowland-Smith with a perfect sixth inning and Jeff Beliveau finished the final two innings in relief. Eric Farris capped the scoring with a solo homer off Beliveau in the eighth.

The Cubs have been shut out five times this season and the team has matched their season-low at 33 games under .500 for the year.

The Cubs and Sounds wrap up this series tomorrow night at 7:05. RH Yoanner Negrin (0-0, 3.60) is scheduled to start for the Cubs against RH Claudio Vargas (6-1, 3.81) for the Sounds. The game will be broadcast live on AM 940 with the On-Deck Circle Pre-Game Show starting at 6:45.
