San Diego Riptide News Release
SAN DIEGO-The San Diego Riptide kicked off this month's commitment to community service with a bang as bright and loud as the fireworks display on Shelter Island on July 4th. Following the July 3rd match-up against the Islanders, the Riptide auctioned off their festive red, white, and blue jerseys to a total of more than $6500. The biggest bang of the night came when Rico Curtis' jersey sold for a whopping $750. A portion of the proceeds went to the North County Honor Fund.
After the team goes on a two game road trip to Central Valley and Green Bay, they return home to participate in the Ramona Pop Warner Golf Tournament on July 23rd. The player's participation shows the team's commitment to local youth football programs, such as Pop Warner. On July 24th, prior to returning to the arena, the Riptide Dance team willb e on hand to sign autographs and pose for pictures at the AFL-CIO Softball Tournament at Robb Field in Ocean Beach
The Riptide finally make their way home to the San Diego Sports Arena on July 24th to take on the Bakersfield Blitz. The team's commitment to the community continues as we celebrate Labor Union Services Night, Fellowship Night, and help tackle hunger. This night features several highlights including a food drive. Help the Riptide Tackle Hunger by donating canned goods. Donate and save $3 off the ticket price. In addition, the first 3,000 fans will receive an original "Riptide Tackle Hunger" t-shirt.
After helping the Riptide tackle hunger, join the festivities at the tailgate. KPRZ will be hosting a Battle of the Bands competition in honor of Fellowship Night. Then after watching a half of pulsating, invigorating arenafootball2 action, prepare yourself for the battle of the labor services as the U.S. Postal Service takes on the United Postal Service in a tug-of-war battle on the field in honor of Labor Services Night. After watching the rest of the game, feel free to come down to the Arena Club and relax to the sounds of Michelle Lundeen and the Blue Streak.
But the biggest blowout, extravaganza comes at the end of the season on July 30th when the Riptide hosts the Coyotes in their last game of the season. It's Fan Appreciation Night and the night of the Second Annual Ultimate Military Challenge. The first 3,000 fans will receive free camouflage floppy hats.
It's raining teddy bears! In honor of Children's Hospital's 50th anniversary, the Riptide will be having a teddy bear toss on the field. Bring a teddy bear or buy a teddy bear and throw it on the field after the first Riptide touchdown. The teddy bears will then be collected and donated to the Children's Hospital.
The Second Annual Ultimate Military Challenge is set to pit the armed forces against each other to see which branch dominates. Competitions include a wall climb, bench press, 40-yard dash, and, of course, tug-of-war at half time. Come out and support San Diego's troops and watch a friendly battle for military supremacy in this ten-event contest, which will promote military awareness and pride.
